Some of you may know that I'm a big fan of the art Some of you may know that I'm a big fan of the arts. I recommend this #DoHoSuh exhibition at the @tate Modern. It explores the idea of home and memory. When does a building become a home? How does an architecture hold and shape our memories? Where and when is home?

Like him, I've also moved around - from Japan to Korea, to the US, and now, the UK. I resonated with him, saying that he only thought about home when he left it.

You may have inadvertently come across his work, which was a hanok, traditional Korean building, hanging off a bridge near Liverpool St Station (see last pic). I missed his exhibition in Edinburgh last year so it was a nice surprise to have him here.

Do you know the Robin Hood Gardens in Poplar that was demolished? A part is hanging proudly (controversially?) in the V&A East Storehouse (@vam_east). Suh has a film piece and a coming documentary about this, that parallels an experience in Korea. That film screening later this month will also be interesting.

It's a tax on the profit (the "gain") you make whe It's a tax on the profit (the "gain") you make when you sell or dispose an asset that has increased in value. If you sell your primary residence, you currently get full Private Residence Relief (PRR) = 0% tax. There is an annual "allowance", £3,000 per person (2024/2025). Beyond that, the tax is 18% or 24% depending on your tax band.

The current flurry of debate is because the Chancellor is looking to get rid of the PRR for property valued beyond a certain threshold. Nothing is decided and we will know better by the Autumn Budget (Oct/Nov).
Talk of the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves’ plan, has Talk of the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves’ plan, has sparked a storm over property tax. Let's start with the basics. SDLT is a one-off tax you pay when you buy a property/land in England or Northern Ireland. It's not quite right to say it's 5%; it depends on whether the purchase is a main residence or second home, if you're a "non-resident", etc. Did you inherit the property? If you have a share, you will be liable for a surcharge. The calculator is here: https://bit.ly/45ZnWf8
